Holo-Box

Floating-Image Display

Patented.

...The Holo-Box aerial-image display, developed by Steve Hines, makes 3-dimensional images float in space. Images hover dramatically in mid air, drawing attention to manufacturers' products at trade shows and retail locations. The Holo-Box provides true 3-D without glasses.

....If you long for the Princess-Leia illusion in Star Wars, look no further! .The Princess Leia image was black-and-white, 2D and low-resolution. .The Holo-Box provides a bright, full color 3-D image with all the detail of the original object.

...Museums can offer closer views of what appear to be actual art objects, than is possible when viewing the actual objects in a glass case.. The Holo-Box essentially removes the barrier between the viewer and the object being displayed, while retaining the protection of a locked case.

...The Turntable Holo-Box allows you to create a detailed three-dimensional mid-air image of objects placed inside its protective enclosure.. When the Holo-Box is used behind the front glass of a store window, the image projects through the window outside the store, drawing business into the store. .The Holo-Box is ideal in the lobby or pre-show area of every 3-D theater and theme park.

...The Holo-Box reproduces every microscopic detail of the actual object.. The image is razor sharp, and virtually indistinguishable from the original.. Floating images retain all detail and realistic reflections and shadows that you would expect as the object turns on the turntable.

...The object is essentially relayed to a safe position where it can be seen by the viewers.. Often, viewers try to put their arm through a floating image of a wrist watch, or touch a floating camera, or a jewelry hanging in mid air.. Expensive items can be safely projected outside the store even when the store is closed.. A custom Holo-Box is shown above; however, several stock models and sizes are available:

Floor-standing Holo-Box FS-4365:

....The Holo-Box model FS-4365 is ideal in trade shows and retail settings to advertise the special of the day, and in magic themed restaurants to have a talking head (using a hidden camera) greet to visitors; also in video-rental stores to show movie trailers.. The 65° horizontal audience angle provided by the FS-4365 is wider than from any other floating-image display on the market.

Holo-Box FS-4365, Video Version

....The video version displays graphics from a DVD, live camera, computer, or remote web site, and is supplied with high-brightness video display, audio amplifier and speaker.

...View in 3-D: The stereo images above and below are reversed for cross-eyed viewing.. If you have difficulty viewing in 3D, try by looking at the tip of your finger approximately 8 inches from your face, and in front of your monitor.. Then notice that the 3-D image is at the same position as your finger.. Remove your finger and you are looking at the 3-D image.

Holo-Box FS-4365, Turntable Version

....The turntable version provides a life-like image of objects placed on its turntable, and is provided with internal lights to display physical products in rich three-dimensional detail.. It appears as if the object itself is floating in front of the Holo-Box.

    Counter-top Holo-Box CT-2260
....A jewelry store is the perfect location for a turntable version of the counter-top Holo-Box.. Expensive jewelry can be locked inside the Holo-Box while its image is projected in front for close examination within a 60° horizontal angle.. Every detail, the depth of pearls and the sparkle of diamonds, can be studied in minute detail.. Here, a pearl necklace and earrings are projected* to catch the attention of shoppers.

    Glass-top Holo-Box GT-60

Working prototype built at a reduced scale as a proof of concept. Photo of three-dimensional image of objects that appeared to rest on the glass top of the Holo-Box shown at left. Actual objects were locked inside.

.......The glass-top Holo-Box GT-60 provides a 60° horizontal audience angle and is ideal at the concession counter in movie theaters; its projected images help sell merchandise tied to the movie as moviegoers line up for popcorn.. For example, cartoon figures, tied to an animated movie, can be displayed as if they were standing on the glass counter.. At other times, popcorn and sodas can be displayed with the Holo-Box GT-60.

...In fast food restaurants, the glass-top Holo-Box GT-60 can serve as the counter beside the cash register.. Merchandising items can be made to appear to pop up onto the counter to entice customers to buy.. If the serving trays are clear plastic, 3-D images can be projected through the top glass and the serving tray to appear as if on the tray. This version of Holo-Box allows open drinks to be displayed.

    Custom Holo-Box displays:

...Holo-Boxes can be customized by HinesLab for use behind windows at hamburger drive-ins to tempt visitors to buy special meals or promotional items.. Items can be projected to just outside, or even through the side windows, to the interior of the car.

*In reality, floating images cannot be seen unless they fall between the eye and the window of the Holo-Box.. Due to the difficulty of illustrating an image hanging in mid air, the Holo-Box is illustrated somewhat from the side to indicate the position of aerial image seen by viewers from in front.

...The Holo-Box is made of a new light-weight strong material which reduces shipping cost, providing savings that can be significant for displays which are shipped from trade show to trade show.
